Role Title - Development and Capability Outreach Manager

Location: Hybrid working with one of the following locations as your primary site: Derby, Warrington or Manchester.

We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Development and Capability Outreach Manager, to be involved in a game changing role as we strive to make the nuclear industry more diverse. 

A direct report to the head of organisational development and capability the outreach manager is responsible for shaping, leading, and continuously improving the organisation’s approach, organisation and operation of STEAM and outreach activity leading to the development of pipeline capability to fill roles at RR SMR.

This role ensures agreed STEAM and outreach initiatives are delivered to a consistently high standard, supporting organisational excellence, regulatory compliance, and cultural ambition.

They will provide expert thought leadership in the space of outreach and educational relationships and embedding quality, consistency, and impact across technical, leadership, and professional learning pathways.

Alongside the Learning Manager leading the emerging careers strategy this specialist role also ensures that we align to the organisational enterprise social value commitments and delivers STEAM outreach strategy that is fit for purpose across all functions globally.

  • Thought leadership in areas of outreach and emerging careers
  • Create a diverse talent pipeline to fill emerging careers vacancies
  • Align opportunities and activities with the Social Value strategy
  • Promote career opportunities to support talent pipelines and inspire generations to take career choices in high value jobs ideally with RR SMR
  • Establish, measure, and report on performance indicators that demonstrate progress
  • Manage relationships and organisations with our partners and communicate stakeholder updates and track investments
  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory developments, and emerging opportunities related emerging careers
  • Contribute to wider HR team projects and initiatives

There is a requirement to build a network of partnerships externally as well as strong internal stakeholder relationships throughout the company to build effect understanding, build and amplify brand and ways of working to activate the company’s proposition in our communities and marketplace.

Key Selection Criteria 

  • Education Outreach
    • Develop, support, drive and deliver the community education strategy.
    • Project manage a STEAM education offering across the UK.
    • Develop a team of volunteer employees to deliver STEAM activities to our local communities across the UK.
    • Use social media to promote our activities to our external stakeholders and customers.
    • Develop community STEAM activities that can be used as personal and professional development opportunities
  • Management and building partnerships
    • Build on existing relationships and develop new innovation-led partnership opportunities for the benefit of the full emerging careers strategy.
    • Develop and manage connections with our local communities, including schools, charities and other partnerships.
    • Work with other schools and colleges to support the development of STEAM skills to develop pipeline and close capability gaps.
    • Ensure partners are regularly reviewed to ensure they are performing to agreed service levels.
  • Project Management
    • Proven ability to manage multiple outreach project simultaneously, from planning through to evaluation. 
    • Skilled in setting objectives, tracking impact, and reporting outcomes to internal and external stakeholders.
    • Develop a robust monitoring and evaluation process of the employability programmes.
    • Provide regular reports on the RR SMR employability programme outcomes.
  • Educational Landscape Understanding
    • Understanding of local education and skills landscapes, particularly in rural or underserved regions.
    • Ability to adapt national strategies to meet local needs and opportunities.
    • Ability to identify, build, and sustain partnerships with schools, colleges, universities, and community organisations.
    • Skilled in aligning outreach initiatives with organisational goals and regional skills strategies.
    • Deep understanding of STEM education pathways and curriculum frameworks. 
    • Experience in designing and delivering engaging STEM programs, workshops, and events for diverse audiences.

Training & Qualification Requirements

  • Proven and demonstrable capability in a learning and development role.
  • Deep understanding of STEM education pathway design and curriculum frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of governance, compliance, and regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR, accessibility guidelines, etc.).
  • Understanding of local education and skills landscapes, particularly in rural or underserved regions. 

 

 

Pay and benefits

We anticipate paying a salary of between £57,600 - £75,600  DOE plus:- 

  • Bonus - Performance related target opportunity 12.5%  
  • Benefits Allowance – £2,200 per annum, enabling you to create a bespoke package   
  • Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions. 
  • Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days.   
  • Private Medical Insurance - BUPA single cover health care   
  • Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay  
  • £250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchases

Our Application Process

Obtaining Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance

Satisfactory completion of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

Satisfactory completion of a basic financial probity check
