Role Title: Mechanical Engineer
Location: Hybrid working with one of the following locations as primary: Derby, Warrington or Manchester
We are Rolls-Royce SMR and we’re doing something that’s never been done before. We’re revolutionising an industry. That’s a once-in-a-career opportunity for those excited by such a challenge. This is more than just a job; this is a legacy.
We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Mechanical Engineer, to be involved in industry leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of power station.
The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for supporting the design of the SMR containment structural components, and related systems engineering ownership as part of the Containment Vessel Structure team. You will work within a core team responsible for the delivery of critical path components with significant number of system and component interfaces. System engineering responsibilities covering the following activities: develop the maturity of the Containment System using a Systems Engineering approach. In line with business governance processes, the candidate will drive the maturity of the design by managing requirements, design data, and system modelling within IBM DOORS. The candidate will also be responsible for ensuring the requirement set and systems engineering capability is developed to a detailed design standard as the overall design progresses through the next design gate. Supporting documentation and drawings such as P&IDs, System Design Descriptions and HAZOPs will be updated as the design matures and so the candidate will be expected to make updates to the Containment System supporting documentation. The role involves cross-functional collaboration with a wide variety of stakeholders across the business, to ensure clarity and visibility between departments.
The role will involve developing and understanding technical and through-life requirements of systems, structures, and components (SSCs), performing optioneering studies to determine optimal design, manufacturing, and construction solutions in keeping with the SMR modular build philosophy as required by the business. System engineering functions are expected to be circa 25% of the weekly role expectations.
Confidence can sometimes hold us back from applying for a job. But we'll let you in on a secret: there's no such thing as a 'perfect' candidate. If you feel you meet 75% of the requirements for this role, we would love to hear from you.
Also, if you are considering a career move or a sector-jump, please get in touch, we welcome applications from people with transferable skills.
