Internal Audit plays a key role in supporting the delivery of the strategic objectives of the business and our work is aligned to ensuring that the risks to successfully delivery of those objectives are understood and being managed. 

The Internal Auditor will form part of a growing Internal Audit team, as the business scales up to deliver customer contracts for our small modular reactors. The auditor will be responsible for delivering audit assignments to support delivery of the annual Internal Audit Plan for RR SMR, which is approved by the Audit and Risk Committee. The postholder will be supported to develop in their professional career by the team and RR SMR will also provide support to undertake/complete their professional qualifications (CIA or ACA qualification) to build the capability of the internal audit function. 

 

Role Purpose

The Internal Auditor will undertake tasks throughout the audit lifecycle, including planning, fieldwork, drafting audit reports and discussing the audit findings with the business. Our work is undertaken in accordance with our Internal Audit Manual and Audit Charter which are aligned to the Global Internal Audit Standards. In addition to undertaking planned audits, the auditor will contribute to the development of the Internal Audit Plan using our risk assessment methodology. The auditor may also be asked to undertake other ad hoc assignments ranging from advisory work or investigations, as required. 


Key responsibilities

The Internal Auditor will report to the Senior Internal Auditor and will work closely with colleagues across the Company to deliver a strong, value-added service, with a focus on strategic risks and opportunities facing the Company. Internal Audit plays a key role in supporting management to establish an efficient and effective organisation with robust governance & risk management arrangements and a proportionate control environment.  

Internal Audit forms part of the three lines of defence model in RR SMR and as such, the team work closely with risk management, nuclear assurance, quality assurance, security and others. 

 

What we are looking for 

  • Understanding and identifying potential risks to the organisation and how to mitigate them.
  • Developing the ability to analyse complex data and provide meaningful insights.
  • Enhancing written and verbal communication skills to effectively engage with colleagues in the business, convey audit findings and influence colleagues to enhance the control environment within the business.
  • Upholding integrity and ethical standards in all audit activities.
  • Gaining expertise in applying the audit methodology and using audit software and tools used within the industry.
  • Ability to analyse information as part of the risk assessment exercise.
  • Effectively able to apply active listening skills and engage in all interactions with colleagues, from more junior staff through to the leadership team.
  • Proficient in using the Microsoft suit of tools including excel, word, PowerPoint, Co-pilot (AI).
  • Building relationships with stakeholders across the business to support the effective and timely implementation of audit findings. 
  • Understanding of business performance, proactively taking steps where the support of internal audit might be required.

 

Beneficial Training or/and qualifications

All members of the Internal Audit team are expected to hold or be studying for a professional qualification, either as a member of chartered accountancy body (ACA, CIMA, CIPFA) or with the Institute of Internal Audit (CIA designation). If you have recently graduated, we will support the study for and qualify either as a chartered internal auditor or as a chartered accountant.

Pay and benefits

We anticipate paying a salary of between £28,800 - £41,400 DOE plus:- 

·       Bonus - On Target Performance Opportunity 7% - 12.5% 

·       Benefits Allowance – £2,200 per annum, enabling you to create a bespoke package   

·       Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions. 

·       Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days.   

·       Private Medical Insurance - BUPA single cover health care   

·       Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay  

·       £250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchases
