We are Rolls-Royce SMR and we’re doing something that’s never been done before. We’re revolutionising an industry. That’s a once-in-a-career opportunity for those excited by such a challenge. This is more than just a job; this is a legacy.

We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Lead Core Performance Analyst.

The Lead Core Performance Analyst will be responsible for building thermal hydraulics models to analyse and design the Rolls-Royce SMR reactor core.

The role will involve setting up and maintaining Thermal Hydraulics models based around established thermal codes, attending appropriate training and conducting a significant analysis campaign. The Core Thermal Analyst will be required to conduct thermal hydraulics analysis throughout the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) process.

The Core Thermal Analyst must be familiar with using sub-channel analysis solvers such as VIPRE-01 or CTF, and/or a core transient analysis code such as S5K to develop safety case grade models and execute them towards the assessment of design basis condition faults. The candidate will ideally have demonstrable experience in delivering substantial technical packages of work. Whilst not essential, the candidate would ideally have an understanding of high performance computing and analysis scripting/pipelining.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development of Core Thermal Performance analysis during accident, design basis conditions, in line with best practice and to standard policies and processes, to support the substantiation of a nuclear power station design that meet all SMR project requirements.
  • Apply technical expertise to direct the Core Thermal Performance analysis programme
  • Apply rigorous quality assurance processes consistent with nuclear industry requirements to the development of analysis methodologies, models and tools. Establish verification, validation and uncertainty quantification requirements.
  • Technically represent SMR in interactions with ONR for assigned areas of responsibility, and lead in some areas the ongoing licensing process including coordination of responses to RQs/Ros.
  • Develop robust work plans to ensure on time delivery, cost and quality is achieved for all project deliverables. Provide guidance to the overall Core Thermal Performance analysis program
  • Understand the nature of the risks applicable to nuclear reactor performance analysis and make decisions in accordance with this understanding and the programme risk profile. Clearly articulate the risks and manage as appropriate with the Core Design Management Team.
  • Ensure that quality is maintained throughout the SMR project lifecycle by progressing through appropriate technical reviews and providing the required inputs to the main project technical review gates.
  • Manage interfaces with other technical functions on the SMR project to ensure that a coherent technical solution is achieved.
  • Work with due regard to Health, Safety and Environment. Comply with corporate, business and legislative requirements. Champion company values, including Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
